Care Guide for Handmade Designer Necklaces
Semi-precious stones vary in their MoH (Moh’s scale of mineral hardness, a scale used to measure scratch resistance of jewellery material), and it is always advisable to treat your semi-precious stone necklaces gently, to ensure their longevity!
Please do not drop or throw your necklace on to a hard surface, or place heavy objects on top of the necklace. The necklace should also be protected from extreme heat, or direct sunlight, as these can affect the appearance of some of the more sensitive semi-precious stones (e.g kunzite).
It is also advisable not to spray perfumes on skin that comes into contact with the stonesAfter each wear, it is good to gently wipe the necklace with a soft cloth and let it air for a while before returning it to its pouch and box.
Over time the silver beads in your necklace will darken – this is natural, and some may like it as such, but you can also polish the silver beads with a silver polishing cloth that can be easily bought.
Some of the Manik necklaces can be heavy, and to prevent slack in the necklace over time, please hold as many beads as you can in each hand, while clasping and unclasping the necklace. That said, as part of the inevitable wear and tear, the necklace will slacken a little at both ends over time, but the necklace is still safe to wear.
Finally, it is important to make sure that your clap is securely fastened. In the case of a box clasp (which consists of two parts, a ‘tongue’ which is inserted into a ‘box’ closure, and locked) you should hear a click when the tongue has been inserted into the box and is locked. In the case of a toggle clasp (consisting of a bar on one end and a circular ring on the other through which the bar is inserted and sits across it) please make sure that you pull the bar right across the ring, so it sits across it securely.
