At times, designing a necklace feels rather like directing a film to me: individual beads may have their own character, but each has to be compatible with others, and to play its part in the composition as a whole.  I start off by assembling the different beads that I will already have in mind for a ‘concept’, trying out combinations and balancing colour, scale, shape, rhythm and materials, until the design takes shape. This usually takes several iterations, and even when a composition seems resolved, I often wait for a day and return with a fresh eye. Mellow (in our Shop) was one such necklace –an arrangement of orange banded agate, orange rutilated quartz and pink rhodonite  had seemed  well-developed, but on reassessment, I was dissatisfied and started over. It now feels like a very different necklace from what I had originally envisaged - and much the better for it.

Over the years, I have enjoyed browsing and shopping for handmade jewellery in Australia whenever I travelled there. Some of Manik’s handmade beaded jewellery use beads that I acquired from a beads shop in a mall near The Rocks in Sydney, while a beaded necklace from Australia, made from gemstone beads and still a favourite of mine, was another find.  Trips to Cairns, Brisbane, and Melbourne yielded earrings, rings and cuffs. I appreciate the character of unique jewellery in Australia – the relaxed confidence, the dare-to-be different, and the way artisan makers often balance creativity with wearability.  Artisan jewellery in Australia seems to value pieces that feel personal rather than overly formal or trend-driven, and that ethos resonates strongly with our own approach to slow jewellery at Manik.

We ship all orders by DHL Express and shipping is tracked. A shipping fee of $18 SGD is to be paid on single-item orders to Australia. Please give us 2 business days to process your order. Thereafter, delivery to countries outside of Singapore will take an average of 2 to 7 days depending on factors such as weather conditions, customs clearance procedures, and the distance of addresses from airports.

Payment can be made with Master Card or Visa, and the digital payment services Apple Pay, Google Pay and Pay Now are also available.
