The naming of the beads starts from the bead in the centre, with measurement for the bigger beads, and moving upwards, with metal beads named last.

In designing this necklace, I wanted to make something characterful that would have strong, sharp colours. Hence, I picked on howlite, jasper breccia and onyx, combining white, rusty red and black with shiny grey haematite spacers. To these, I added oxidised worked silver bads and bead caps.
This is a powerful composition of shape and colour. The tabular diamond-cut rusty red jasper anchors the design, balanced by the deep black onyx and crisp white howlite, while the dark gleam of finely worked oxidised silver beads and intricate bead caps add depth and drama. I designed it as a statement piece, and it is strong, graphic, and unapologetically bold; for someone who loves jewellery with presence and character!
When my niece N saw the necklace, she said that the diamond tablets and the strong colours reminded her of Harlequin, the well-known comic character from the Italian commedia dell’arte,and I was delighted with her observation, so Harlequin this is! At 69 cm (27”), it will go over a collar and would probably be more striking with stronger colours such as dark chocolate brown, jade green, teal blue
