The mother-of-pearl stems are a recent acquisition – I couldn’t resist the nacreous quality of the beads! And it came to mind when I was recently working on the third necklace in my Study in Scale capsule of lighter, finer scale necklaces.

Freshwater pearls seemed like an obvious accompaniment, and they were. I picked on some 8 mm, AA grade ones and a few 9 mm AAA grade ones.  I needed a third gemstone bead and found it in the 8 mm translucent natural citrine with delicate internal fissures. The addition of the golden citrine brought an extra dimension to the design, its lively sparkle enhancing the soft lustre of the pearls and mother-of-pearl stems beautifully.

I have kept the composition restrained to let a rivulet of ivory mother-of-pearl stems, gleaming 9 and 10 mm freshwater pearls and golden translucent citrine converge in a composition that feels elegant and refined, yet luminous.  The natural beauty of the gemstone beads speak for themselves. Gold accents of granulated spacers further enhance the glow effect. For someone who would appreciate the soothing radiance of a necklace that feels equally ‘right’ by day or in the evening…

You wouldn’t be surprised to know that I am naming it Gleam😊! Gleam is a versatile piece and would go with a range of colours from the soft pastels to stronger tones,though perhaps less so with the strong brights. Experiment and enjoy!
