I was re-designing a long necklace for a friend and decided that it was better off as two necklaces instead (she loved the idea). And this got me excitedly thinking about doing a pair of necklaces for Manik that could be worn separately or together!
I decided that it would be in the orange/red spectrum, and the beads should not be too large, given that there would be a second necklace. I had been wanting to use the smallish, banded orange agate lozenge, and to this I added the plain tabular agate ones. I alternated the rich orange clusters with the cooler faceted rose quartz bicones, and the addition of the small deep red faceted garnet discs worked beautifully to add an uplifting glow.
I then worked on the slimmer necklace to be worn on the inside, and when Y and I were talking about the two yet unnamed necklaces she referred to them as ‘the thick one’ and ‘the thin one’. It just seemed so right to name the pair as “Through Thick”, and “& Thin”!
Through Thick encapsulates warmth and vitality through the agates on the one hand, but the garnet and the pale rose quartz also captures depth and a quiet glow! I love the pairing – it feels like a celebration of balance and companionship, of shared journeys…
I placed Through Thick and & Thin against beige, bright forest green, charcoal-black, and purplish pink, and while it worked with all the colours, I was a little surprised that they looked the most striking against the green and black! Experiment and enjoy!
